About

Generally, my photography is not about a sense of place, and probably won't trigger feelings of familiarity with a particular location or point in time. Hopefully, the images encourage contemplation into the greater aspects of the world around us.

Essentially I photograph light and colour. These two elements are most tangible where there is little else. Places that are vast and empty, places where light and colour manifest themselves to their full potential. Hence I look for locations that are void of the usual landscape components; where there are no distractions impeding a complete appreciation of these universal ingredients.

Many images are the result of numerous trips to the same location during the hours at the edge of the day. The image capture process using a view camera is contemplative and exacting, where a single shot can take many minutes to set up the camera, compose the image on the ground glass, measure the light and finally trip the shutter. However the results, when everything goes right, are unsurpassed by other camera techniques.
